Biotechnology research is a major focus at Tabriz University of Medical Sciences. The Center is designed to reinforce on this strength by facilitating research collaboration between highly productive research teams that extend across departmental boundaries. These collaborations are established to bring together complementary research efforts in biochemistry, molecular biology,  genetics and computer sciences .

The Biotechnology Research Center (BRC) was established in April 2006 to function as center of excellence in the field of biotechnology at Tabriz University of Medical Sciences.
